A story of
purpose.

It all started with a question.

Why are we still building our future with materials that harm it?

Back in 2015, in a lab at ETH Zurich, Gnanli Landrou asked that exact question. As a materials scientist born in Togo, he had seen both sides of the global construction story: the urgent need for affordable housing — and the staggering environmental cost of building it.

So he started experimenting. What if we could use what we already have — like excavation and demolition waste — to make something better? Cleaner. Circular. Strong enough to build homes, schools, even cities.

Soon after, he crossed paths with Thibault Demoulin, a fellow ETH-trained materials scientist with a passion for heritage preservation and innovative building processes. The two became friends, joined forces, — and Oxara was born in 2019.

Our Purpose

We are commited to minimise resource depletion and CO₂ emissions from building materials — for a future worth living for generations to come.

We are transforming the construction industry from the ground up — literally — by replacing cement, one of the largest sources of CO₂ emissions and resource depletion, with a smart binder technology that helps close material loops.

Oxara is a young Swiss company with roots at ETH Zurich and a global perspective. We collaborate with material producers, planners, and construction partners to bring innovative, high-performance building materials into real projects — materials that are cement-free, low in CO₂, circular by design, and scalable.

Our Vision

Our vision has remained unchanged since day one:

Make sustainable construction the norm — and affordable housing a reality.

This vision took shape in Switzerland — a country known for precision, innovation, and a deep respect for quality. It’s where our technology was born and tested, laying the foundation for something much bigger.

Because while our roots are Swiss, the challenges we’re tackling are global.

Across the world, millions still lack access to safe and affordable housing. But the solution doesn’t lie in exporting high-tech systems — it lies in making sustainable building possible anywhere. That means working with locally available resources and using processes that match construction practices already in place.

We believe innovation should empower, not overwhelm. And that sustainable materials must be scalable, adaptable, and accessible — whether you're building in Zurich, Nairobi, or Mumbai.

Sustainable construction now — to improve lives, protect the planet, and make good building the global standard.

Whatever we do.
It is nothing without our team.

Behind every experiment, every test batch, and every project is a group of people who care deeply about changing how we build. Scientists, engineers, creatives, and collaborators — our team brings together diverse expertise and a shared drive to rethink construction for the better.

They’re the reason our vision moves forward, from lab to industry, from Switzerland to the world.
